Dear colleagues,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Welcome to the 11th International Maritime Science Conference \u2013 IMSC 2025. This year\u2019s conference is organized by the University of Split, Faculty of Maritime Studies (Split, Croatia), co-organized by the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Maritime Studies and Transport (Portoro\u017e, Slovenia), and other renowned institutions and supporting organizations. Considering the increasing challenges of globalization in shipping and the related maritime sector in terms of safe, digitalized, contemporary, and sustainable development, it is necessary to create an academic platform to discuss optimal scientific and engineering solutions to achieve the industry\u2019s goals. The IMSC conference aims at the constructive discussion of academics and maritime professionals focusing on interdisciplinary research and development by presenting and sharing their research findings as well as operational experiences to determine the long-term development strategies in maritime science, education, and the shipping industry. This can only be achieved through the engagement of researchers, engineers, instructors, and professionals from maritime organizations by sharing their knowledge, experiences, and ideas in navigating the waves of excellence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IMSC 2025 will take place in the beautiful city of Split in Croatia, a magnificent coastal city located on the eastern part of the Adriatic coast and today a popular holiday destination for tourists from all over the world. Although Split is a peninsula surrounded by the sea, it is also bordered by the surrounding mountains, Mosor to the northeast, Kozjak to the northwest, and Marjan Hill, one of the most important symbols of the city, which rises on the western side of the peninsula in the immediate vicinity of the old city center. The city attracts visitors with its rich tradition, glorious history, and the beauty of its natural and cultural heritage. Of particular note are Diocletian’s Palace and the entire historic core of Split, which, along with other magnificent architectural scenery, have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Furthermore, Split is a vibrant city, a perfect place for excellent gastronomic experiences, with numerous cultural events, and eclectic forms of entertainment, and is especially known for its sporting achievements. The city of Split offers a beautiful view of the sea and the nearby islands of Bra\u010d, Hvar, \u0160olta, and \u010ciovo. The mild and pleasant Mediterranean climate, characterized by dry and very hot summers and cool but moderate and humid winters, makes Split a perfect destination all year round. The city is easily accessible from the airport in Ka\u0161tela (20 km).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Topic: Digitalisation of Maritime Transport from a Maritime Safety Perspective<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Luk\u0161a \u010ci\u010dova\u010dki assumed his position as Head of Digital Solutions at the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) in 2020 and has been responsible for the development, operation, and continuous improvement of maritime digital solutions of the Agency in cooperation with Member States and the EU institutions. Working in close collaboration with business stakeholders he is involved in transforming maritime regulatory frameworks and operational contexts into digital systems and services supporting the implementation of EU maritime policies. Originally a maritime nautical expert with extensive knowledge of maritime law, he has been contributing to the formulation and enforcement of safety, security, and environmental initiatives and standards for more than 20 years.  In the area of digitalization in maritime affairs, he has been catering to the utilization of information technologies to simplify, optimize, and streamline data exchange between maritime stakeholders and create added-value digital products. Prior to EMSA, he was Director for Maritime Safety and Marine Environment Protection for Croatia\u2019s Ministry of the Sea and EMSA Administrative Board member.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

World Maritime University<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Topic: Navigating the Uncertain Sea: The Role of Maritime Scholars<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dong-Wook Song is the Korean Chair and Professor of Maritime Economics and Logistics at the World Maritime University, Sweden. He serves as Editor-in-Chief for the WMU Journal of Maritime Affairs and the WMU Book Series. Recognized as one of the top 10 researchers in port competition and logistics (1999\u20132022) by Marine Policy (2023), his work has been ranked among the most impactful in maritime logistics by Maritime Policy and Management (2021). A 2006 co-authored paper was named a “classic” by Google Scholar in 2017. Professor Song\u2019s research focuses on the strategic and managerial aspects of global shipping, ports, and logistics.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Topic: Compliance with international maritime standards \u2013 IMSAS perspective<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Tatjana Krilic is Deputy-Director of the Sub-Division for Member State Audit and Implementation, Technical Cooperation and Implementation Division at the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Being involved in the implementation of the IMO Member State Audit Scheme (IMSAS) at IMO since 2009, her main responsibilities include overseeing the delivery and continuous development of various aspects of the Scheme, as well as leading the development of tools to support the implementation and enforcement of IMO instruments by Member States and formulating related technical assistance programmes. Her experience in an array of topics, both at national and international level, gave her a unique perspective in identifying and addressing the challenges that maritime administrations face globally in the pursuit of achieving compliance with the international maritime standards. Prior to joining IMO, Ms Krilic was a Principal Marine Inspector and Head of Inspection Division in the Croatia\u2019s Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Nenad Radovi\u0107 is Senior Product Sales Manager at MEP, Croatian company representing Wartsila simulators in the area. He is been involved last 25 years in many marine simulation installation projects, covering planning, budgeting, technical aspects, sales, delivery, installation and maintenance of simulator systems. Providing continuous support to local maritime training providers has been responsible for the development, and continuous improvement of maritime training. His background in marine electronics enabled extensive technical expertise in navigation and communication equipment, vessel traffic management systems, electronic chart systems and sales and marketing within maritime community.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The conference fee paid entitles a single participant to attend the conference. Accommodation is not included. Even if a conference fee is paid for several authors of a paper, only one conference participant is admitted (the one who has paid and filled in the registration form). At IMSC 2025, both full papers and papers with abstracts will be accepted, so the submission of full papers is not mandatory. Accepted abstracts will be published in the Book of Abstracts and will be available before the start of the conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abstract Submission<\/strong>

~ <\/strong>Abstracts should be text only, approximately 300 words in length, and written in English. Please include at least four (4) keywords immediately after the abstract.
~ Abstracts should be submitted by 1 December 2024<\/s> 10 January 2025. Authors will be notified of acceptance no later than 20 January 2025.<\/strong>

~ The short presentations will be 15 minutes long, including questions (12+3 Q&A). The typical presentation should last up to 10\u201312 minutes.
~ Authors who plan to present their papers during the conference sessions should prepare a PowerPoint presentation using this PowerPoint template<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/mark>.
~ All presentations must be uploaded in advance<\/strong>. Please bring your presentation to the registration desk at least 30 minutes before the start of your session or at the end of the previous day for early morning sessions. Publication Opportunities<\/strong>
